Have You Started Your Diet Yet?

It’s Monday, have you started your diet yet?

I get asked at work almost every day, “What are you having for lunch?” This will inevitably be followed by something like “Damn, you always eat so healthy. I’m going to get… (insert name of fast food establishment).” Listen, I don’t judge!

I see the same thing over and over again. People who have the desire to lose weight, but they haven’t taken action. They talk, but they don’t do. During lunch when my co-workers and I are sitting together and eating, the discussion of dieting certainly begins.  “I’m going to start on Monday,” they’ll say to me, as they eye what I’m eating. (I wonder to myself if Monday they will come marching into work with a salad and some lean protein, or if they’ll be stepping out to that fast food place again?)

I can usually tell when someone has finally decided to take the call to action. They bring along their lunch and proudly tell me about it. “Bobby, I’m having a salad today for lunch, and I brought some soup,” they will tell me with an ecstatic tone. I’m always glad to listen. Sometimes they will stick with it, but unfortunately like many of us sometimes they won’t. It wasn’t until I found the right way to perceive and achieve weight loss that I was able to lose the weight and keep it off for more than a decade, allowing myself to get on with my life. The ones who are succeeding are so fulfilled by the changes they are creating in their lives. The people who fail, I encourage to try again. (I have failed in the past as well, many times. Here at LWFY, you can always begin again, the right way!)

If you continuously have thoughts about the same issue, then what are you waiting for?  If your mind is generating positive, life improving ideas and your “light bulb” is flickering, then your body and the universe is trying to tell you something. Listen to it. Get moving.

Not ready to get started today? Ok, I’ll take tomorrow, but why wait until Monday? Weight loss is just one chapter in the book of your life, let’s get on with the rest of the novel you are writing. Your story is a beautiful one.

I encourage people to sign up for a health coaching sessions with me, or take me up on a personal grocery store consultation, and of course read my book. I don’t want to give you a reason to fail, I want to give you the tools you need to succeed.

Having a support system and knowledge is so important. I love getting to know more about you guys, breaking down your menu, and teaching you. (Not to mention we always have fun together.)

Please share your experiences about getting started on your road to weight loss.  If you’ve hit a speed bump, tell us about it.  If you’re on cruise control to your exit, tell us about that too. This is a safe and judgment free place to help each other.

Talk to you later skater.
